Some journeys inspire. They raise awareness. They encourage others to push their own limits. Pallavee Appigadoo’s journey is one of them.

At EllGeo Re, we firmly believe in the power of inspiration and resilience – values that are central to our commitments. It is with this spirit that we proudly supported this young Mauritian, who has just achieved an extraordinary feat: the first solo flight from South Africa to Mauritius in a Cessna 172*. Thanks to our contribution, among others, she was able to overcome the final logistical hurdles of her adventure.

Titled Flying in the Face of Adversity, this project symbolises much more than just a flight. It is a tribute to the many battles Pallavee has faced – against illness and more.

Born with a hole in her heart, she was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 11, a spinal condition that required complex surgical intervention. In December 2016, with the help of the S.A.C.I.M. association, she underwent open-heart surgery in India, followed by corrective surgery for her scoliosis. Upon returning to Mauritius, Pallavee worked to regain control of her life, but above all, she allowed herself to dream. She imagined herself as a pilot.

Her dream took her to South Africa, where after several attempts, she earned her professional pilot’s license. Yet, true to her drive to go beyond limits, Pallavee wanted to achieve more: she wanted to inspire others and prove that nothing is impossible. Thus, she conceived her ambitious flight project, covering thousands of kilometres across Mozambique, Madagascar, and La Réunion before landing in Mauritius after six days of flying.

However, the journey was not without challenges. Before even taking off, Pallavee faced the crucial need for insurance coverage for her plane, essential to land in Mauritius. This is where EllGeo Re stepped in, by sponsoring the third-party insurance and providing the necessary support to help her fulfil her dream. On Sunday afternoon, Pallavee finally touched down in Mauritius, welcomed by her family, friends, and the partners who believed in her, including EllGeo Re, represented by its CEO, Jean-Alain Francis.

This accomplishment deeply resonates with our core values: Growth, Forward Looking, We Make It Happen. By supporting initiatives like Pallavee’s, we reaffirm our commitment to accompanying individuals and projects that carry a message of hope.
